IDC Course
The IDC Course at Circle Divers will span 10 – 18 days (depending on each Dive Centre’s logistics) to prepare you for the 2 day PADI Instructor Examination (IE) at the end of the course. The IDC teaches everything you need to know to become a PADI professional Dive Instructor. Any PADI Divemaster (or equivalent) who has been a certified diver for over 6 months may enroll in the course as long as they meet the following conditions:
- You will need 100 dives to attend an IE.
- Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care (CPR and First Aid) training within the past 24 months
- A medical statement stating you are fit to dive signed by a physician within the last 12 months
You will need to be an Emergency First Response Instructor to receive your PADI OWSI rating, but this can be completed during your instructor training course.
What Does An IDC Involve?
The Instructor Development Course (IDC) is made up of two parts - the Assistant Instructor (AI)
course and the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program. After completing the entire IDC *you can
go on to attend an Instructor Examination (IE), which is the final step to earn a PADI Instructor certification.

During your IDC you will learn to conduct all PADI core courses. You'll be able to organize and present information, conduct skill development sessions and control open water dives.
Key parts of the course include:
- PADI Standards and Procedures for courses you can teach with in-water training
- Learning, Instruction and the PADI System
- Risk Management and Diver Safety
- The Business of Diving and your role as an instructor
- Marketing Diving and Sales Counselling.
