The Straits of Tiran comprise four beautiful reef systems between Tiran Island and the Sinai Peninsula, at the entrance to the Gulf of Aqaba. From north to south they are Jackson Reef, Woodhouse Reef, Thomas Reef, and Gordon Reef. All four are rich in hard and soft corals with high biodiversity and abundant fish life. Along the deeper reef edges you may see reef sharks and—in season—hammerheads. Two wrecks sit on the outer sides of Jackson and Gordon, visible above the surface as landmarks. Farther north on the western side of the Gulf of Aqaba lies the more recent wreck Million Hope. Additional sites in the straits include South Laguna and North Laguna.

Like Ras Mohammed, Tiran is best for experienced divers: vertical walls, deep canyons, and frequent strong currents make these classic drift dives. Minimum requirement: 20 logged dives and Advanced Open Water (or equivalent). Nitrox recommended to extend no-decompression time.
