Eel Garden is also one of the most colourful dive sites in Dahab.
To reach the dive site, we walk over the reef table for about 5 minutes before entering a narrow lagoon to begin the dive. The shallow water and assortment of corals make for a very colourful start. The lagoon is home to lots of lionfish and, depending on the season, glassfish.
After leaving the lagoon, we cross a bright white sandy slope that resembles a ski slope against the dark blue sea. The slope already has some areas populated by eels. We also often find longhorn cowfish, blue-spotted rays, and all the other species that live in the Red Sea.
When we reach the reef again, we slowly turn the dive and follow the ascending reef line framing the dive site. As we begin the safety stop, the shallow reef sparkles and is full of colour. This is the area where most of the eels live, giving the spot its name. The eels are very shy and tend to disappear into the sand, so keep your distance to enjoy the view.
True fans stick their GoPros in the sand close to the eels and let them film for a few minutes to capture some amazing footage.
After finishing the safety stop, we meander along the colourful entrance before ending the dive by returning to the lagoon and the shore.
