The Canyon Dive Site Dahab
NorthThe Canyon dive site and the Blue Hole are among the most visited dive sites in Dahab.
The Canyon is located in the northern area of Dahab, approximately 2.6 kilometers south of the Blue Hole.
The dive begins with a swim through a shallow lagoon. We then approach the canyon with a shallow dive, keeping the reef on our left. The shallowness of the water keeps the colours rich. There are beautiful corals and lots of antheas.
We then approach the canyon via the fish bowl. There are lots of glass fish, antheas and lionfish. We swim over the canyon until we reach the penetration point, which is at around 15 metres.
The canyon itself is a cave with an open ceiling, so there is always direct access to the surface. We slowly descend into the canyon from 18 to 30 metres. Once we reach the sandy bottom, it's worth looking up to see the rim of the canyon forming the shape of South America against the blue sea.
A swarm of glassfish lives in the area that used to be the old exit of the canyon. The amazing narrowing walls gave the canyon its name.
As we exit the canyon, we can see the divers' air bubbles forming a silver curtain over the rim.
On the way back, we swim over a drop-off and peer into the blue, hoping to see some nice fish.
We finish the dive in a shallower part of the site, where there are lots of colourful corals growing on the sandy seabed.
We do the safety stop between two colourful coral pinnacles that mark the exit area.
If conditions allow, we enter the lagoon via a shallow side entrance and slowly make our way back to the shore.
